Can I purchase plane tickets as a gift with open-ended travel dates?

I want to purchase round-trip airfare to Florida for my parents to use, but with no particular date on which they have to use it. 'Within the next year' would be okay as an option. Is this possible? I know gift-cards are an option, but since prices fluctuate, I'd rather just get tickets to where they need to go... Thanks!
