I wanna take really good pictures, but my camera is an average kodak camera and i'm broke?

okay i have an average camera and i want to take really nice pictures,but i see people who have like $2,000 dollars cameras and they take great pictures. so could you give me any good photo editing sites and advice? i'm reading a book called the 'Photographic Eye' by Micheal O'Brein and Norman Sibley
